Facing a Generation; survivors of the Nazi horrors were photographed in Poland and Romania in the mid 80’s. They moved me to record their stubborn will to live and endure those hard times. Even in the mid 1980’s, coal dust constantly permeated the air, stymying every breath, dim lighting and grim streets prevailed. In Romania, Nicolae Ceausescu still oppressed the people at every turn and Poland resembled a war zone. The only color was the orange, yellow and red paint covering the stark cement buildings, flowers for sale at curb side stands, and the lights in the eyes of the survivors.
